The Bernie is a different scholarship program

  • The Bernie Scholarship Awards is not seeking academic stars. It is looking for determined people who have overcome obstacles and are seeking to improve their life opportunities through education.
  • The scholarship provides financial aid where others don't. Recipients of the Bernie Scholarship are low income residents of assisted housing units of The Montgomery County, Maryland Housing Opportunities Commission, Edgewood Management, The Scotland Community and Rockville Housing Enterprises
  • Recipients of the Bernie Scholarship may use their awards for any educationally related expense they incur including books, fees, tuition, computer equipment, transportation or childcare.
  • Bernie awards are made to high school seniors or adults who have been out of school but are seeking to improve their lives through education. They don't have the financial resources to support the costs of college or other training.
  • The Bernie Scholarship Award Program is completely funded by tax deductible donations
